Currency & Prices in Ayia Napa
On the January 1st, 2008 Cyprus took the last step in the long process of joining the European Union by accepting the Euro as its main currency.
Before the arrival of the Euro, Cyprus Pounds were Cyprus' main currency, although Euro was commonly accepted by taxi drivers, kiosks and supermarkets (NOT nightclubs and dance bars, though).
CYP is currently still accepted all over Cyprus and will be probably accepted at least until the end of 2008 if not 2009.
The arrival of Euro will probably set a new standard for pricing in years to come for the Cypriot market. For now, though, Cyprus is still slightly cheaper than Europe (certainly cheaper than the UK). Unfortunately though, this is not reflected in hotels and alcohol prices.
Here's a short table that lists the average prices I got when on our last vacation:
Pricing Table | ||
| Service / Product | Price | |
| Night drinks (beer / vodka redbull): | 3 CYP | |
| Fastfood meals (McDonalds) | 4.5-5.5 CYP | |
| Nightclub admission | 3-6 CYP | |
| Beach Sunbeds & Loungers | 1-2 CYP | |
